2010 Spring Tennis
The 2010 La Porte Bulldogs qualified nine players for the regional tournament as the Bulldogs took first and second in boy’s doubles and mixed doubles, and second in boy’s singles in the spring 22-5A District Tournament. The Bulldogs also captured the 22-5A District Boy’s Team Championship for a second year.
Senior CJ Martin and freshmen Brantlee Rau defeated seniors Bryce Tracy and Nate Brock in the finals of boy’s doubles (7-5,6-3). CJ and Brantlee went into the tournament as the #1 seeded team and Bryce and Nate as the #3 seeded team. To reach the finals, CJ and Brantlee defeated Dobie’s Tieu and Nguyen (6-1,6-0) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, CJ and Brantlee took out the #4 seeds - Memorials’ Kolancy and McDonald - in straight sets (6-3,6-4). Bryce and Nate started the tournament with a straight set (6-3,6-4) win over Memorials’ Fehl and Payne in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Bryce and Nate defeated Deer Park‘s Cox and Cash , the #2 seeds, in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
Seniors Danny Ceron and Jeremiah Turner defeated senior Jessie Hampton and sophomore Tyler Shope in the finals of mixed doubles by the score of 6-4,6-3. Danny and Jeremiah were the #1 seeded team in the tournament and Jessie and Tyler were the #3 seeded team. Danny and Jeremiah started the tournament with a 6-1,6-3 win in the quarterfinals over Deer Park’s Hearon and Bermundez. In the semifinals, Danny and Jeremiah eliminated the #4 seeded team of Cao and Jung from Dobie in straight sets (7-5,6-1). Jessie and Tyler had an easy first round match (6-0,6-0) against Pasadena’s Flores and Casas. Their quarterfinal match against Pearland’s Nguyen and Powell was another straight set (6-2,6-1) victory. In the semifinals, Jessie and Tyler were extended to three sets (7-6,4-6,6-2) by the #2 seeded team of Jose and Zuber from Dobie.
Senior Jake Stamps, the #2 seed, was defeated by Pearland’s Daniel Hernandez, the #1 seed, in the finals of boy’s singles by the score of (6-0,6-1). Jake was a 6-1,6-1 winner over Dobie’s Alex Gary in the first round. Jake’s first round win was followed with a 7-5,6-0 win over Memorial’s William Bracho in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Jake had an easy 6-1,6-1 victory over Pearland’s Austin Armstrong, the #3 seed. |
