John Mullins

 

Varsity tennis coach, John Mullins, who has been with the tennis program for 33 years, retired at the end of the 2010 school year.  The 2010 tennis team honored Coach Mullins at their annual banquet for his 32 years as varsity coach at La Porte High School.  Coach Mullins assumed the head coaching job at La Porte in the fall of 1978.  Since the fall of 1978, the tennis program at La Porte has produced numerous district champions and regional qualifiers in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles and a number of team tennis championships.  Coach Mullins was named the 2006 Texas Tennis Coaches Association/Wilson 5A High School Coach of the Year.  In 2009, Coach Mullins was named the National Grassroot Umpire of the Year by the United Sates Tennis Association.  To cap off his illustrious coaching career, Coach Mullins, along with Coach Shope, was named 2010 District 22-5A Co-Coach of the Year.
